[mix:] Octopus Marmalade by Basilisk
Via Ektoplazm: “Octopus Marmalade is an exploration of the light and funky side of progressive psychedelic trance. These tracks have been chosen for their intricate rhythmic programming, deep and groovy bass lines, warm summer melodies, and laidback atmospheres. Instead of being a peak-time party mix, this one is crafted with smooth harmonic mixes for background listening in the car or at home. Enjoy!”

party pics from paradigm beach
Last Saturday’s party on the beaches of Brooklyn was rated excellent by nine out of ten trancers.
It was the first trance party ever for one, the first in New York for a few others, and a refreshingly good time for jaded psy veterans.
The weather remained cool, cloudy, and with the exception of a single hour during the night, dry. The threat of heavy rains deterred a few from venturing out, keeping attendance around a hundred. The police were not curious that night, and failed to make an appearance until late on Sunday afternoon, at which point they cared not at all and let the party continue… at somewhat reduced volume.
Ben light-o-matic took excellent photos of the gathering. Head over to his site and check them out. I’ll post any other contributions here as they are discovered.

survive the dream(space)
Dreamspace is an art installation, a photo op, and inspiration for art decoists everywhere. The English artist Maurice Agis interconnected 115 PVC cells (( The cloth, a flexible latex polymer, is the same type of material used for decoration at psychedelic trance parties, although those pieces, much smaller, are colored fluorescent, neon with black lighting. The only lighting Agis uses is that of the sun. )), pods comprising an airy mass of color, shadow, and motion through which visitors can wander.
Red, blue, yellow, grey and green stretched plastic, supported not only by a frame but by the air that flows through the breathable structure. Visitors must remove shoes and don jedi-like robes, also PVC, in a color of one’s temprament choosing.
Unfortunately at the latest London-area deployment of the organic piece – an errant gust of air actually lifted the structure over 30 feet from the ground while visitors and the artist were inside the structure, killing two and injuring more.
Although the artist has been showing the piece for over 20 years at innumerable sites, this has not happened before, and police are calling it a “freak accident,” ((A witnessing officer referred to it as a ‘bouncy castle’)) and are open to the idea that vandals loossed the ropes. Suspiciously, misfortune struck the artist two weeks eariler at a Liverpool showing of the piece when a gang of Phillisitines slashed through the walls.
Hopefully an enterprising psytrancer in the UK will invite Mr. Agis and one of his surviving Dreamspaces to a party. Maybe a workshop for the psychedelic deco artists out there, to pass on the technique?

28thday on the beach
In a few days New York is going to see its first big psychedelic beach party in years. If the vibe from the last weekend’s party in Jersey continues in the city on Saturday, we are all in for a hell of a good party. Its already looking like a big one, if rsvp’s are anything to go by.
So far the Cast of Characters will be
- PARADIGM at sunrise
- EG~BOT during the night
- PSYLAB * LIVE * also during the night
- TONY UNORTHODOX in the morning
If all goes well it will be a full night and morning of music, followed by an idyllic day at the beach, if the weather and Authorities allow. If you come you will be sunburned — come prepared.

the collective birthday
This weekend saw a surprisingly successful party in the sandy wastes of Jersey, the sort that results only from fortuitous timing and perfect planning. The brains and machines needed for the twelve hour party came from Philly, New York, as far as Boston beyond.
We arrived late, well past four, but still in time to watch the night recede and the shadowy figures in the circle become people again. Then the sun rose in its full summer majesty and proceeded to sear everyone trapped in the clearing below, so a caravan of prudent souls retreated to the lake secluded a few miles away. Once the sooty grey sand had been removed from body, clothes, crevices, and gear it was time to go home.
A quick trip for us this time. Much thanks and appreciation go out to the PSIpeople for this occasion, their collective’s fifth birthday.

Best of the West 5: PARADIGM
July 22, 2006
Presented by 28th Day and psyNY
A free NYC open-air party
DJ Paradigm’s mix is from the 2006 Gemini Festival and is a masterwork of psychedelic fantasy and consciousness. Driving pulsating rhythms with a funk and twist set the stage for a journey in a reverberating cascade of harmony. Hard edged and stylish, the mix aggressively pushes the listener into a deeper awareness. Dramatic and captivating it invokes a feeling of bliss and wholeness.
The mix airs every day from 7/11 to 7/24, starting each day at 2PM EST, and again for the rewind at 2 AM EST.
- Listen to the mix at Zia-Trance or at Bob’s live365 station.

RSVP poetry
Witness the eloquence of your average psytrancer:
Although your post on the forum was grand,
we seek more info to be well planned.
Kindly advise the party to be -
where is it, pray tell, so we can dance free.
We ask your location and time for the night
to appreciate such music, loud with might.
best wishes to you, for today and the ‘morrow
we send you joy and never any sorrow.

down by the sea
We cased a new place to gather this weekend. It is a bit of oceanside reclaimed by wilderness, one of NYC’s mostly-forgotten places. ” ((” Google Earth is the party planner’s friend. “))”
Looking ahead two weeks to the planned party, the idea was to spend a night at the location with a few people, their tents, a generator, and very loud music, all to observe how The Authorities would react. Daunting logistics delayed the completion of our set up until a few hours before dawn – later than hoped, but without interruption.
Indeed, things went so smoothly that we remained there for most of the next day, basking in the sun, listening to music, eating, drinking, dancing, playing in the surf. I noticed that other beachgoers within hearing of the sound system enjoying the free music, too. Families, young couples, some kind of prayer group, a man homesick for the beaches of Jamaica — they found the music irresistable.
So things look well for the main event on July 22nd. Paradigm is flying in from San Fransisco to play a sunrise set. If the weather holds out, we are going to be treated to the best psytrance party New York has seen in years.
- Visit 28th Day Productions for more information about the free open-air party.

Redesign
Di.onys.us needed a new, more appropriate look, and it is finally done. The previous iterations were not… interesting enough, not psychedelic. This look combines the natural look of the original design with an Alice-In-Wonderland pull-string (that is what it brings to my mind, at least).
Accolades go to Derek Punsalan for creating, and then freely sharing, the Foliage theme used here.
