1. New York City’s psychedelic halloween in 2007

Unlike the underground releveries of the past few years, the notable Psy events in 2007 are respectably commercial. Alex Grey dressed as the Grim Reaper and hosted a Dance Masquerade at his Chapel; Psycheground capitalized on the Wednesday night holiday to throw a full-on trance party at the Sullivan Room

Demons & Deities Masquerade

This year’s psychedelic-entheocentric Halloween party was CoSM’s Demons and Deities Masquerade on Saturday, October 27, 2007.

After a day of the heady counter-cultural Horizons conference, Alex Grey (as the Grim Reaper) gave a solo presentation on the various representations of Heaven and Hell in world cosmologies.

We created an excellent space for the CoSM crowd, cultivating a nonalcoholic, nonsmoking, and nonconsumer space for them to enjoy the nuanced magic of the Samhain holiday. The mix of live, electronic dance, and ambient musics in different rooms created a balanced space – there was always someplace else to go and someone new to talk to.

rly in the evening. Since CoSM is in the process of raising funds for a land purchase in upstate New York, we wish them good fortune in their ventures.

Psycheground’s Halloween Ball

Longtime weekly promoter Psycheground lucked out with Halloween falling on a Wednesday in 2007. Their usual night at the Sullivan Room was upgraded to a full out psychedelic costume party.

Local community favorites will be playing their tracks for us. On the lineup:

seed: autonomous art space opening in Newark, NJ – 10/20/07

Seed is a center for the cultivation of visionary exploration. A gallery devoted to unveiling the beauty of our existence. The Visionary Arts Collective, a collaboration of both established and up-and-coming artists, will assist SEED to promote and pursue artistic inspiration, a myriad of events, programs and activities. While also maintaining a resource center for contributing artists, SEED will offer exhibition and studio space for artists to utilize in the evolution of a creative community.

This semi-permanent autonomous space takes advantage of inexpensive real estate by basing itself in Newark, New Jersey. It maintains its link to NYC by close proximity to the PATH train, which is five blocks directly east of the space.

With the help of the psyNY (or more accuately in this case, psyNJ) Seed is throwing a spacewarming trance party on the night of Saturday, October 20th, 2007. It will be the first chance for the space to raise funds to help upgrade basic necessities in the space like plumbing and electricity.

[mix] Sukhush – psychill from metaforce

6362Metaforce has been keeping busy beyond the party planning space, expanding into the areas of online retail, artist management, and music production. They’ve covered ground in a short amount of time and now have momentum, or so it seems from here.

Yidam’s psychill mix, covered here previously, was metaforce’s first free public release of this sort.

This current psychill mix-release from metaforce comes from Sukhush, a team made up of DJ Tachyon (aka Michael Ortiz) on the decks, accompanied by Rachel and her flute. Their first mix is available for free download:
